Yes. Commercial spray drone operation in California requires an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, an FAA Part 137 agricultural aircraft operator certificate, and an FAA Section 44807 exemption for the aircraft. On the state side, the pilot needs a California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) Pest Control Aircraft Pilot certificate (Journeyman or Apprentice), and the business needs a CDPR Pest Control Business License and registration with each County Agricultural Commissioner where it operates. Working both tracks in parallel typically takes 6 to 9 months. See our Part 137 timeline guide and pilot resources for details.
The FAA Part 137 certificate, Section 44807 exemption and CDPR licensing process typically takes 6 to 9 months when working through both federal and state tracks in parallel. Our team can guide you through every step, from initial application to final approval. Book a consultation to get started.
